The New SsangYong Rexton Presented Moscow Motor Show 2012

The 2011 Hyundai Accent GL is the trim name of the modern major budget ride. The interior of the three-door hatchback (no five-door is available for any of the hatchback trims) is surprisingly spacious. The Hyundai Accent hatchback’s cargo space measures 15.9 cubic feet, also larger than the Toyota Yaris three-doors. Additionally, Hyundai notes that front passengers have class-leading legroom and rear passengers have a class-leading 53.1 inches of shoulder room. Safety in the GL matches the other trims for the 2011 Hyundai Accent. Six airbags and a front occupant classification system, as well as a tire pressure monitoring system, are standard. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the 2006-2011 Hyundai Accent as Acceptable (its second highest rating) for front, rollover and rear crash tests, but failed the car for side impact tests, with its lowest Poor rating.

Japanese automaker Nissan is testing a super-green way to recharge its Nissan Leaf electric vehicle using solar power.
Electricity generation and storage for regular consumers are drawing attention in Japan after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami caused massive blackouts in the countrys northeast.
With the country steeped in power-saving mode, energy generation has become all the rage among Japanese automakers.
Nissan Motor Co on Monday unveiled a new charging system that gets electricity from solar power that can also be stored in the lithium-ion batteries used in its Nissan Leaf electric car.
The 488 newly installed solar panels at Nissans global headquarters will produce enough electricity to charge 1,800 Nissan Leaf a year, allowing drivers plugging into one of its seven charging spots to travel on carbon-free energy.
The firm is targeting cumulative sales equivalent to 100,000 electric cars worth of second-life batteries in 2020.
Two weeks ago, Toyota Motor Corp began a test-run of a model home that manages electricity consumption and taps into weather forecasts to maximise the use of solar power. The project, led by Toyota City and comprising about two dozen companies, will run a trial through 67 houses to be sold by Toyotas housing unit, Toyota Home, by the end of 2013.

As with other Volkswagens, the Passat has light-effort steering whether you get the gas engine, which uses hydraulic power steering, or the diesel, which has electric power assist. For a big sedan, body roll is well-controlled. All versions of the Volkswagen Passat have the same suspension tuning, but wheel sizes range from 16 to 18 inches.
Volkswagen expects most Passat buyers to choose the 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-five-cylinder engine, which is new to the Passat for 2012.
My five-cylinder test car had an optional six-speed automatic transmission (a five-speed manual is standard). I actually liked it better than Volkswagens dual-clutch six-speed automatic, which is optional with the diesel engine (a six-speed manual is standard). The five-cylinder Passat gets an estimated 21/32 mpg city/highway with a manual transmission and 22/31 mpg with the automatic. The power difference narrows at highway speeds, but the diesel still feels a little stronger. The Volkswagen Passat has grown some with its redesign — 4 inches in length, half an inch in width and half an inch in height — but the cabin feels substantially roomier than the outgoing Passat.
The 2012 Volkswagen Passat will be larger, roomier, and less expensive than VWs previous midsize sedan, with fuel economy ratings up to 43 mpg Highway and decidedly conservative styling.
VWs new factory should deliver considerable cost savings, and the company promises a base Volkswagen Passat price of about $20,000. VW expects an EPA rating of 28 mpg Highway with the VR6.
The mileage king in the new Passat range will be powered by the only diesel engine available in its class. The 2011 BMW M3 is available in sedan, coupe and convertible body styles. The coupe adds a carbon-fiber roof and split-folding rear seat, while the convertible adds a fully powered retractable hardtop and sun-reflective leather.
The Cold Weather package adds heated front seats and retractable headlight washers. The Premium package adds power-folding auto-dimming mirrors, BMW Assist telematics, Bluetooth, leather upholstery and different interior trim. The Technology package adds electronic damping control, M Drive adjustable settings, keyless ignition/entry, the iDrive electronics interface and a navigation system with voice controls and real-time traffic. Most of the above items are available as stand-alone options along with 19-inch wheels, a sunroof (deletes carbon-fiber roof on the coupe), rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, power rear sunshade (coupe and sedan), a split-folding rear seat (sedan), satellite radio, an iPod/USB adapter and a 16-speaker premium sound system.
The coupe and sedan can be equipped with the Competition package, which adds EDC (electronic damping control), 19-inch wheels with high-performance tires, a lowered suspension and different programming for EDC and stability control.
A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission (M DCT) is optional. The latter offers manual operation via steering-wheel paddles as well as a full automatic mode. All BMW M3s feature a specialized locking rear differential.
Standard safety features for the 2010 BMW M3 include front seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests gave the 3 Series sedan "Good" ratings (the highest possible) in both frontal-offset and side-impact crash testing, although the convertible received a second-lowest "Marginal" score.
BMWs M3 is heavier, more expensive, and unlike previous models, V-8 powered.
Pricing matches the quality, however: its high. Optional trim changes, a wide range of available options, and a strong base spec make the BMW M3 worth the price.
Safety is a tricky issue with high-end cars, which arent often tested by the safety agencies. The latest BMW M3 features more technology, both in terms of driver-configurable performance controls and entertainment, information, and navigation, than any previous model.
The highest praise I can give a sports car is to say it performs well both on a track and while driving slowly around town. Why?
One of the few truly awesome cars Ive driven, the BMW M3 nails both the sport and the comfort ends of the spectrum.
My 2011 test car came with BMWs M double-clutch transmission, and I have to say that even though I generally prefer manuals, Id probably take this transmission if I were buying a BMW M3.

Are you the 2012 Mercedes Benz C Class Coupe

We’ve been told to expect to get our first glimpse of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March, but a few photos of the German two-door may have leaked out ahead of time. The images you see above were sourced up by the team at GMotors. From what we can tell, the vehicle in the stylized photos lines up pretty well with the spy photos we’ve seen of the 2012 C-Class Coupe so far, which leads us to believe that this may actually be the real deal. If so, the new coupe will wear the new beak of its updated four-door compatriots.
That includes the new slightly restyled front fascia. Interestingly enough, this particular set of photos ditches the quad fog lights we saw in the spy photos in favor of LED units. we’d say that seems like a fairly reasonable change given the popularity of the diodes in automotive design at the moment. Word is that this particular machine will get the same rash of engines as the sedan, meaning that buyers can expect to get their hands on either a 3.0-liter V6 with 228 horsepower or a 3.5-liter six-pot with 268 ponies. The question is, will we get an entry-level four-cylinder model like the 2012 C-Class sedan? Something tells us we’ll know a little more as we get closer to Geneva.



Lotus willing to build Evora based sportscars for other automakers

Lotus is considering offering up its latest sports car platforms to other automakers, and this isn’t the first time. When the Elise debuted in the mid-90s, Lotus sold the chassis to form the basis of new lightweight coupes with different powertrains, the most notable of which included the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 and, of course, the Tesla Roadster.
According to recent reports, Lotus has received inquiries from several automakers about using the new Evora in similar ways. While the Evora is all-new, the chassis is built using similar, Elise-like aluminum extrusions riveted and bonded together for a light, strong structure. Since the Evora has been designed around a V6, automakers have the potential to fit a range of larger, more powerful engines. The upsized chassis could also provide a better platform for electric motors, with far less modifications than those required to turn an Elise into a Tesla. However, if any automaker does develop something off the Evora, it’s likely to be a few years away.
Us? We’re thinking about a 3.5-liter Ecoboost-powered, mid-engine mini-Ford GT. How about you?

Mitsubishi Mirage will be presented at the Paris Motor Show

2012 Nissan NV to start at 24 590

Nissan is getting to work launching its NV commercial vehicle in the North American market, and prices have just been announced. The body-on-frame NV will be built in Canton, Mississippi and will start at $24,590 for a V6-powered NV with standard roof. A high-roof SV-trim NV 3500 with a 317-hp, 5.6-liter V8 rings up at $32,190.
Nissan’s work van offering joins the ranks of a burgeoning segment populated by vehicles like the Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and even the Dodge Grand Caravan Cargo Van. The only one of those vehicles that approaches the NV’s space is the Sprinter, and Nissan’s muscular V6 and V8 powertrains are brawnier than everyone else. 2012 KIA Rio Prices

Kia’s 2012 Rio 5-door is available in three different trims to give the customer options. The Rio comes in the LX, EX and SX models. The starting sticker price for the Rio 5 door is $13,600 MSRP. Kia Motors also is offering their Rio 5-door A/T starting at $14,700. Kia’s top-of-the-line, sporty SX trim sticker price starts under $18,000. Rio 5-door has been critically acclaimed for several components. The car’s exterior and interior styling are beautiful and the car has class-leading horsepower and fuel economy. The GDI engine provides impressive power and fuel efficiency.
The new 2012 Rio 5 door also comes a bit better equipped than the previous generation car. Safety features are important and the Rio offers Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a four-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM).

Chief engineer Yoshihiko Kanamori says the 2013 GS 450h hybrid will outperform the current gen V-8-powered GS 460.
Since Lexus didnt spend its whole development budget on engines for the GS, it had plenty of money to invest in making the new car more fun to drive. In addition to Standard mode, the GS has an ECO mode that, Lexus says, revises throttle mapping, seat heating, and climate control systems for better fuel economy. SPORT S+ builds upon SPORT S by firming up the suspension, tightening up the steering, and remapping the stability control system to allow more aggressive driving. Both SPORT S and SPORTS S+ feature meter lighting in a fierce-looking red.
The 2013 GS looks much more aggressive than the previous model.
The rear bumper and underbody were designed to help the GS slice through the air while remaining firmly planted to the road. Like in the rest of the car, Lexus says aerodynamics play a key role here, as the grille is designed to improve the flow of air around the car. The GS incorporates tech favorites like Pandora, iHeartRadio, Face book, Yelp, and Open Table, among others.
Lexus also loaded up the GS with safety technology, including a system that uses the cars radar cruise control to warn the driver about objects on the road, and an infrared camera to detect if the driver has noticed an object or not. If no further action is taken, the GS will start braking 2 seconds before impact, Lexus says, to help to lessen the severity of the collision. Lexus also will offer night vision, a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and Lane Keep Assist.
Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda will be taking over the helm at Lexus, and played a big part in the GS project, proudly telling us, "This car is amazing to drive." The Lexus GS was a comfortable, reliable and finely crafted midsize sedan. But sporty? Lexus hopes to remedy that situation with the 2013 Lexus GS 350, unveiled this weekend at Pebble Beach.
Lexus engineers are said to have taken the LFA super car as their inspiration for a sportier GS sedan.
When consumers think about the pinnacle of luxury, we want them to think Lexus, Toyoda said. We hand picked a team from all over the world to head up a new Global Lexus Division at TMC and have combined engineering, design, and marketing all under one unit, separate from any other group.”
Since I am so passionate about the future of Lexus, I wanted to be personally involved, Toyoda added. “We are reasonably certain they have accomplished this goal in the 2013 Lexus GS 350. “Today, buyers in the mid-size luxury segment want a more engaging driving experience, styling that makes a statement, and a roomier interior package, said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. In the new 2013 Lexus GS 350, Lexus wanted both strength and agility so they drew upon the Lexus LFA super car for inspiration, carrying over key elements for a more engaging driving experience. Like the IS-F, the 2013 Lexus GS 350 emits a distinctive engine sound and exhaust tonalities – an engine that literally sings to you.
The roughly two-inch wider track works a revised suspension design to create a more solid stance and excellent cornering ability.
The 2013 Lexus GS 350 features a 3.5-liter V6, four cams/four valves per cylinder, with dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-I). The transmission incorporates many features of the aforementioned Lexus IS-F. These include startlingly quick shifts, earlier torque converter lockup and downshift throttle blips — to support four driving modes operated by the new Lexus Drive Mode selector. 2012 Hyundai Sonata sport design elements are the same and basically transition Sonata in 2011 much has changed and improved. The latest generation of Sonata gets all the new styling, new engine, and a thorough re-working nose to tail. 2012 Sonata comes in three trim levels: GLS, SE and Limited. Hyundai also makes Sonata Hybrid, the latter of its own.
Exterior
This Hyundai Sonata side profile features bold character lines starting at the trailing edge of the front fenders and swept all the way to the back of the car, even hugging the rear lights. While the chrome strip running the length of the Sonatas waist, not an end in the mirror, but all come up to the light. The sleek look for more than just a show.
Interior
Inside, the 2012 Sonata cars for a lot of money. A huge list of standard features, even in the base GLS model, such as Bluetooth and iPod USB input, which is offered only as an extra-cost option by the competition. New for 2012 is the addition of Hyundai Blue Link telematics system, which is standard on all trim levels.
Performance
2012 Hyundai Sonata is offered with either naturally-aspirated or turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the most affordable midsize car offers a choice of four or six cylinders. The new Sonata is lighter than previous models, and directly injected 2.4-liter engine has more horsepower and torque than the latest generation model.
Safety
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not been rated 2012 Hyundai Sonata, but the 2011 Sonata IIHS Top Safety Select, get the highest score of "Good" in front, rear, side impact and roof strength tests. Sonata comes standard with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, brake assist and tire pressure monitoring system. Six airbags are standard on every trim level and is at the front, front-side and side-curtain position. Installation is fairly standard in this class.
Competitors
Since the 2012 Hyundai Sonata is available with a V6 engine, buyers who feel that the six-cylinder engine that should not only have to test drives the Ford Fusion, but also Mazda6 and Nissan Altima. All three have a strong six-cylinder engine option. Mazda6 six-cylinder engine making 272 horsepower.
